Worth reading for the overall correspondence between movement, loads, and health, with new terms and ways of thinking in here seldom discussed in the overall “fitness-sphere”. It gets a bit bogged down for me in excessive scientific analysis while you wait (and wait and wait) until she finally starts telling you what to actually do. I didn’t find the do-this parts terribly surprising, any decent yoga or stretching book (such as by Pavel or Kelly Starrett, sp?) would basically get you to the same place. Her analysis is more “cellular” than functional which is a nice contrast. One point I do appreciate is the notion that fitness is less “systemic” than we generally think, meaning that only the parts that get worked get benefited, while many other parts can easily be neglected, thus the need for a wide ranging program of motion, loading, and stretching. Would seem above all else Walking is a major benefit, especially on multi terrains and grades. Unfortunately in a really hot and polluted city like Bangkok where I live this isn’t really a great option. But I do get her point.The exercises at the end were a bit “meh” for me, rather mild and obvious, but if you’ve done little fitness your life and have mobility issues I think this is a good place to start. But really a start, not a finish.I felt like the book would have been really good for my sedentary Grand-P’s...if they were still around. For experienced athletic types might be a bit too soft.
